Alright guys I’ve decided to split up my "review" of phantom italy into many posts because god knows I don’t have the patience to make one well thought out post. Also I use the term review loosely. I’ll be listing random remarks, not making a structured text, I m on vacation dammit hehe.

AUCTION/OVERTURE

Not much to say about the auction, the chandelier was quite nice but for me the real showstopper is the transition that takes place during the overture.

Since this is a smaller production the chandelier doesn’t get lifted above the audience, instead it simply ascends to the ceiling of the stage.

However they absolutely make up for it by taking advantage of the turning stage to offer a very cinematic looking transition where you get introduced to different characters while the overture plays.

I’m sure I’m forgetting someone but the managers, Joseph Buquet, Mme Giry and others all get a turn to walk on stage in slo-motion as if going about their daily life at the opera.

I actually found this much more entertaining than the usual simple « chandelier lifting » transition

HANNIBAL/THINK OF ME

I loved Carlotta in this production. She definitely stood out in comparison to other Carlotta’s I’ve seen.

Instead of simply being a whiny Diva you really get the feeling that this Carlotta cares about her position. Her theatrics simply seem like a conscious act to make people do what she wants.

However I will point out that she sometimes didn’t pronounce her lines very clearly, which is obviously not an issue if you are a phan who has memorized every word but I can imagine a first time audience member might have a hard time understanding certain things.

Earl was amazing as Andre but you guys already knew that hehe.

I’ve already seen someone talk about this but I did love the costuming for the rehearsal. Half of the actors had accessories thrown on over their normal suits which is definitely what most rehearsals usually look like in real life. The theatre kid inside of me relates hard.

Loved Amelia as Christine. They used the turning stage during think of me which I once again found to be a good way to add visual interest to a usually pretty basic scene.

Meg was absolutely in love with Christine and that is so valid for her. I think she might have been more obsessed with Christine than both Raoul and Erik combined.

We’re talking hand holding, never ending eye contact, hugs, also this meg is SO annoyed that her mom makes her go rehearse, all she wants to do is stare at Christine for 5 more minutes mom plsssss

*coughcough* anyway, back to the canonical romance.

I would love to be able to describe Christine’s reaction when Erik’s « INSOLENT BOY—» blasts in but I think I was too busy literally melting at the sound of Ramin’s voice to pay attention sorry.

Because of the limited sets the mirror Erik appears through is actually the one of top of Christine’s vanity.

It is a little funny to see Christine lift her skirts to scale her vanity but I actually quite liked the effect it gave overall. The elevated mirror not only gave Erik a little more height which looks very ethereal and intimidating but it also made it look like he was a sort of portrait coming to life and breaking out of painting into reality… I’m not great at explaining these things but just trust me it looked very gothic and cool hehe.

Just noticed I didn’t talk about Raoul at all… Raoul existed, the end. (The actor was actually really good, I’m not at all trying to throw shade at the him I just could not care less about Raoul if my life depended on it.)

AAA I’ll continue this soon hopefully, I have tons more to say about the rest of the show :DDD

Originally, Ranboo is from the End and was royalty. That’s why they wear the crown.

They are nonbinary and use they/he pronouns //they mostly prefer they/them but doesn’t particularly mind he/him.

They’re often caught carrying a grass block or their memory book. If not either of those then they will most likely just have their hands in their pockets.

Constantly surrounded & followed by enderman particles.

They are very anxious and shy, all the time. They speak quietly a lot unless around somebody they really, really trust.

They are typically found either in snowchester or a forest, sometimes just wandering the SMP.

They spend way too much time mining, they overwork themselves.

appearance hc’s🌓

Their skin & hair is very messily split black and white. On the white side of their body, their hair is black. On the black side of their body, their hair is white.

This isn’t a hc considering it is canon, but they are 8’5. They’re often more hunched over to appear somewhat shorter, and it’s entirely fucked up their posture. Their platform boots make them about 8’8-8’9.

Their wardrobe consists of black suits, black dress pants, black skirts (hardly ever wears), red ties, black ties, black platform boots, and white platform boots. They do own a couple sweaters and more comfortable pants, but they almost never wear them. They have flower crowns from Tubbo and Tommy, and emerald earings from Techno and Phil.

They have light purple scars on their face, streamed down like tears. Water burns them because they’re an enderman, so when they would cry it burned them badly and scarred their face.

they have fangs

they’re hair is long, it reaches their shoulders and sometimes their neck / ears get tickled by their own hair

they also have two tails that r very fluffy!! and they have horns !!!!

palms / hands: 3/10, not insanely bad but you’ll get some really soft / squeaky giggles !

arms / shoulders : 3.5/10, about the same as their hands just sliiightly worse

sides: 5.3/10: any technique here will get them to be really reallyy squirmy and giggly, tasering / poking gets them to squeal and raspberries or even nibbles if u decide to do that will get them to shriek. (nibbles or raspberries anywhere get them shrieking)

underarms: 6/10, any tickles here get loud squeals n giggles, rough or light, tracing or scribbles, anything here gets them rlly bad

Remus is definitely the most woobified, sugar-coated marauder in fanon. He was so interesting in canon when he was portrayed as a character who was on the good side but with typical villain traits: charismatic manipulator, selfish, gaslighter, etc. His motivations were understandable too. What are your thoughts on him? How do you feel about him in fanon vs canon?

honestly, fanon remus makes me so annoyed i don’t think i can even properly articulate it lol. it’s gotten so bad that people will completely forget how the man acted in the books and then have go and say ‘oh it was completely out of character for him to do x’ when like,,,,no? (i mean, if u don’t care about canon then great, just say that and we’re gucci) like i’ve literally seen people argue him trying to run out on his wife and unborn kid was ooc as if we didn’t get multiple examples of his cowardice (self admitted) and avoidance tactics. like, he was not a saint and he definitely was not a morally upstanding person. he often comes off so much more favourably compared to sirius and james when the man wasn’t any better. all his faults are whitewashed into ‘he was scared of losing the only friends he had’ which is such a shit excuse (even more than the ‘poor werewolf’ one). i once saw someone saying ‘how do you think remus would’ve reacted to harry’s illegal tournament entry’ as an aside to ‘how would sirius have reacted as a free man’ and i remember being completely baffled because…we know how he reacted? which is that he didn’t. the man didn’t even bother to send a letter to harry, didn’t show up before the task when everyone else’s families did, didn’t help him with any of the crises, wasn’t there post graveyard. like, there’s a theme here. remus has no interest in cultivating a relationship with harry (or if he does, he has a very shitty way of showing it). honestly, he’s kind of terrible at relationships in general imo.

i’ve mentioned this before, i think, but also the double standards with which he’s treated coupled with the complete lack of accountability is so frustrating. like, remus can mess up more than anyone else but it’ll never stick. for eg, you’ll have so many people saying sirius treated harry like a second coming of james (and i do blame the movies for that one) but remus’ repeated usage of james as a way to manipulate harry is completely ignored. like that scene in poa is actually cruel. sirius’ forced absence from harry’s life is thrown in his face, but remus is never once questioned. (it’s why him being called a second godfather is a pet peeve of mine tbh). he wasn’t a known werewolf until poa, what the fuck was he doing until then? that’s the thing right, there’s so many gaps in his storyline that u can fill it any way u want. fans will do it favourably, while people like me who don’t like him won’t.

there’s also the whole sirius aspect of it, for me. as far as fictional characters go, i think remus is terrible for sirius. like most people think the exact opposite, yeah? remus is out of sirius’ league, there’s a power dynamic that’s skewed in sirius’ favor, remus’ low self esteem, trust issues blah blah. but i genuinely believe it’ll be sirius who comes off worse in a r/s relationship. so ykno, that just adds to my bias lol.

editing to add: guess it’s the hallmark of a successful manipulative character, though, that he flies under the radar the way he does eh? like that’s the sign of success right there, that he can pull all the shit in the world without it sticking to him so good on him lol

I. Do you have a guilty pleasure in fic (reading or writing)?

i don't really think i have anyhing i'd consider a guilty pleasure? when it comes to writing i am unapologetically self indulgent, this fic is for me first and i OWN it, so if i end up putting everything i like into a fic i'm like. bitch it's my right to do so

i have kind of a similar mindset when it comes to reading fics, i love a lot of things but it's never really something i'd consider guilty pleasures..

editing this because i wanted to add something! this is still not something i consider a guilty pleasure, but i have to admit i let myself be wayy more of a sap in my violetta fics, because i feel like it just fits with the context? like if leonetta can share dreams in canon i don't see why marciego couldn't be obnoxiously in love in my fic you know. i hold back more from that when i'm writing for other fandoms but it just comes naturally to me so i didn't even think about it at first. so yeah, not really a guilty pleasure but i DO enjoy being as cheesy as i want without any filters, so i thought i could add it here!

R. Are there any writers (fanfic or otherwise) you consider an influence?

there are SO many fics writers i admire! one of my friends is so good at writing emotions, i've always admired her for that, and just generally a lot of people who wrote amazing hq fics that i cherish very dearly, but i think the person i admire the most might be owedbetter on ao3, this author wrote i'm still here, my fav zutara fic and every time i remember this fic im in awe of their writing. the summary of the fic is simply "you see me, and somehow, that makes all the difference" and i think nothing will ever shatter me to my very core the way this sentence did. that was not the point but if yall like zutara and want to read a fucking amazing canon divergent fic about them go for this one i promise you you won't regret it

other than that i honestly don't read a lot of books so i can't talk too much about it!

S. Any fandom tropes you can’t resist?

this is actually pretty hard, because basically i know what i don't like, and i like everything else so! but man.....i love domesticity so much, i want the fics i read to feel like home and a warm hug and something so normal and so wholesome it hurts. truly my shit

now that was for the fics i read but if we're talking shipping tropes best friends to lovers and rivals to lovers are probably my favorites, also enemies to lovers but more like enemies to friends to lovers you know (but the enemies part is 👌 also enemies to enemies but they trust each other more than anything somehow? to lovers is chief's kiss but we're getting really specific here)
